Tour one of San Diego County’s coastal wastewater treatment and reclamation facilities: San Elijo Joint Powers Authority’s upgraded San Elijo Water Campus (SEWC). The SEWC was recognizes as CWEA’s 2021 Plant of the Year (medium) and treats 3 million gallons per day of wastewater, captures and treats local stormwater, and produces over 2,000 acre-feet per year of recycled water through conventional and advanced treatment processes (i.e., membrane filtration and reverse osmosis). The SEWC features a new administration and operations center and campus-wide improvements that promote community engagement, water quality, sustainability, and safety. Another major upgrade to the campus was the Biosolids Dewatering Facilities Improvements Project, completed and operational in July 2025. This project replaced aging belt filter presses with modern centrifuge dewatering equipment and associated solids handling infrastructure including electrical upgrades.
